Wow

December 31, 2008

Ha! Coolness! (I can’t believe I actually used that expression) 129 people have visited my poetry blog today. I wondered why, and then I clicked the “Life” tag/category thing on WordPress’s homepage, and my blog was featured at the top of the page, linking to my poem “Wanderer” (which actually isn’t a very good poem, stylistically, so I’m surprised, which is why I wondered why it had the most hits when I checked my blog stats).

Anyways, I think that’s neat :D

Have an amazing rest of your life.

December 29, 2008

I’ll try to be good about blogging again.

Laura is moving into Matthew’s old room. We bought curtains, sheets, and a bedspread yesterday, and paint today. We’ll probably get it all painted today, and she’ll probably move in in the next couple of days when the paint smell fades. She’s painting it a light silverish tealish color. She and I have never had our own rooms, so I’m looking forward to it, although I will miss chatting late at night.

When we went to Wal-Mart yesterday, I found a pair of plier things made for inserting eyelets and snaps. I’m happy :D I spent hours outside on the concrete patio pounding eyelets into the bodice and skirt that I made Laura for Christmas because the table doesn’t work very well. This will hopefully make inserting eyelets a lot easier. I haven’t tried it out yet, but since I have some eyelets to insert in a dress pretty soon, it won’t be unused for long.

I’ve almost finished reading Black by Ted Dekker for the second time. Then I want to read Red and White again, and then Chaos, Infidel, Chosen, and Renegade by the same author. I got the latter four for my birthday, but I haven’t read them yet because they have a lot to do with The Circle Trilogy (Black, Red, and White) and it’s been a year since I read that. I also put a book on hold at the library this morning (online) – How Sleep the Brave by J. H. Hunter. Someone recommended it to me. It sounds very interesting. Not that I should be adding more books to read. *Whistles innocently*

ANOTHER Journey to the Center of the Earth

December 26, 2008

But still not the one with Brendon Frasier that was released in theaters. We watched another made-for-TV version tonight with Rick Shroder, Victoria Pratt, Peter Fonda, and Steven Grayhm (who looks just like Matt Damon did when he was younger). Peter Fonda is the only one I’d ever heard of before.

It was less interesting and in-depth and exciting and well-made as the other one we watched. The acting wasn’t as good, either (not that it was stellar in the version we watched the other day, but definitely better than the acting in this one). But on the bright side, the Matt-Damon-look-alike who played the nephew didn’t fall in love with a girl in the center of the earth (I was going to stop watching if he did), and the people who lived there, more like Native Americans than cave-men, weren’t so immoral (the movie didn’t show much at all about how they live, in fact). So it was much better in that respect, but neither versions are worth watching again. My sister saw the new one with Brendan Frasier (I don’t know how to spell his name) in it today – she and a friend rented and watched it – and she said it’s better than both the ones we watched on TV.

Movie Review: Old version of Journey to the Center of the Earth

December 26, 2008

This version was made for TV and stars Treat Williams and Jeremy London (no idea who they are). Dad bought it at Wal-Mart for $5 in a set that came with another Jules-Verne-book-based movie (Mysterious Island).

It would have been a nice, fun movie, and started out that way, but it had very disappointing problems:

The handsome young main character man (Jeremy London) turned out to be a jerk – he had a fiance back on the surface, but he “fell in love” (without even getting to know her…how does that work??) with a cave girl in the center of the earth and made out with her. I think they stopped before going all the way because it bothered him that he was being unfaithful to his fiance (Dad was fast-forwarding, of course, and then he was bored because the movie had slowed and fast-forwarded most of their conversation afterward so I’m not sure what all they said about that). But he was still a jerk to forget his fiance like that in the first place because of a pretty face, and get all smoochy with the cave girl. Then he went back and was sick and said the cave girl’s name in his sleep and his fiance wanted to know who Ralnah was but said it was none of her business so never mind (was too her business since she was engaged to him!) and he didn’t tell her, but he didn’t marry her, either (thankfully! He wouldn’t been even more of a jerk if he married her without telling her what he’d been up to), but instead went off on a ship because he felt like wandering. *sigh*

And the rest of the cave people had few if any morals. Not to mention the main characters believed in evolution. I don’t recommend the movie at all. It’s a shame that they put that stuff in there.

Finally

December 26, 2008

Yes, I’m actually writing (well, typing) an entry after neglecting my blog again. I hope you (if anyone reads this) had a wonderful Christmas.

My brother came over Christmas Eve and left this morning. My aunt came Tuesday and is leaving today. On Christmas Eve, we hung around, ate, and watched The Fellowship of the Ring. Yesterday we opened stockings and gifts, watched movies (an old version of Journey to the Center of the Earth, Wall-E, and Cars), and played games. It was very enjoyable.

My main gift from my parents was a digital camera, as I already said, which I picked out and helped pay for and have been using for a month or two already. My sisters gave me a memory card, my brother gave me money, and my aunt cookies. And my parents also gave me stocking stuffers such as fuzzy blue socks and a scissors sharpener (:D).

My aunt, mother, and sisters are playing Scrabble. I’m at the table with them on my laptop, but I’m not playing because a) I don’t feel like loosing miserably right now, and b) It’s a four-player game.

I’m kind of rambling now, so I’ll end this.

12/12

December 12, 2008

I’ve been neglecting my blogs…my life right now consists of many “coincidences” and me trying to figure out what they mean.

In other news, my older brother got a new job that he’s going to start Christmas week, and he’s moving out of the house into an apartment tomorrow because the job is an hour or two away from where we live now. My younger sister is going to move into his room. I’ll have my own room for the first time in my life. There are pros, such as more closet space, and cons, such as not being able to stay up talking about random things and making up silly stories.

The rest of this post is on a somewhat “mature” subject matter.

The matter is homosexuality. It saddens me that I feel the need to post this, but it’s becoming more of an issue in our society. There are Christians who have been deceived into thinking it’s okay, but it’s definitely not. The Bible says it is “an abomination” (in Leviticus). If you ever encounter it and want to know what the Bible says so that you can stand up for what is right, here are some verses.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10:
9Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

Romans 1:26-28
“For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper.”

1 Timothy 1:8-10
“We know that the law is good, provided that one uses it as law, with the understanding that law is meant not for a righteous person but for the lawless and the unruly, the godless and the sinful, the unholy and profane, those who kill their fathers or mothers, murders, the unchaste, homosexuals, kidnappers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is opposed to sound teaching,”

Defender Knives

December 1, 2008

I ordered some things from http://www.defenderknives.com (which is also http://www.shelterdist.com ).

The first is a sword. This one:Click
It has a few flaws – some scratches on the blade and hilt, and some small tears in the leather-covered handle (which I’m considering putting a dot of glue on, because I’m kind of strange). The tape on the pommel was a pain to get off with my fingers (*hoping it wasn’t there for a good reason*) and then I gave up on the tape goo and wiped it twice with some goo-gone, and no more tape goo. I always have to do things the hard way :p The site says “Good Packing” in the description, but the packing wasn’t very good. And of course for that price it would probably break if I tried to fight with it, but I just bought it for show – to display in my room, carry around the Renaissance festival, and the like. My other sword has a dragon head on the pommel that I’m not very fond of, and it’s shorter. This new sword is very multi-purpose – I can use with it pretty much any costume or garb.

My sister and I both ordered pocket knives (Click for knife). They have 11 functions, some of which are very mysterious. The description says the tiny light is very bright, but if you hold it an inch away from your hand and point it at it, you can’t see any difference. The flashlight on mine is loose and keeps falling out of place. But hey, they were only $3 each.

I also ordered a pair ofthese gloves. They’re probably not great quality, but for a dollar…I like them.

I ordered this makeup and manicure set as a gift for my older sister. The box looks like it came from a yardsale or something, making the “$45.99 retail value” on it laughable. I’m hoping the contents are in better shape than the box.

Yes, I was very aware when I ordered these that for those prices, they probably weren’t great items, and for those prices, I’m pretty happy with everything. Granted, the shipping was $15 (the sword is heavy), but it’s still a pretty good deal. And it came with bubble wrap! Weee! Haha.
