GARF and Dogs

January 27, 2009

Approximately three months remain until I will hopefully go to GARF, the Georgia Renaissance Festival (less if you go earlier than homeschool day). If anyone wants to come with me (and my mother and younger sister and whoever I can get to go), just drop me a note or e-mail me or whatever. Tickets on homeschool day (May 7) are $10 per adult and $8.50 per student. Visit http://garenfest.com/ for more information. The student days last from 9:00 to 14:30 (2:30 PM). If I go, I plan on being there every moment possible, and wearing Renaissance-ish (not claiming to be historically accurate) garb. Since I will hopefully have new garb made in time, I might have some things you can borrow to wear if you come.

I went to Michaela’s house on Saturday. We went to Starbucks with Amy and Rachel and then watched Iron Man. Michaela has trained Rachel’s dog Kiwi to let herself outside and close the door when she comes back in. Kiwi went out, and their other dog Sunshine was inside, and Kiwi let Sunshine out.

I need to go do other things, so I will leave you with a picture and a link.

Oho

January 22, 2009

I don’t have a reason for using that as the title of this entry. I just felt like it.

I generally forget what I blog about pretty fast, so I apologize if I repeat things.

I updated my poetry blog and I’m about to update my Project 365 blog as I listen to Josh Groban. I’m really enjoying the book I’m reading (How Sleep the Brave). Some of the character dialogue seems unrealistic, but most of it’s very good and some of it’s perfect. So far I think it would make a great movie.

I watched the Karate Kid movies recently on Hulu. I saw the second and third (and fourth, “The Next Karate Kid”, but I don’t like it as much) on TV on day and wanted to see the first so I looked for a place to watch it online and found Hulu. That inspired a search for other movie-watching websites and that inspired research on whether or not they were legal. Most of the ones you’ll find if you Google them aren’t legal, but Hulu is. Here are a few links to pages that can help you find other legal ones:

Giant Post o’ Randomness

January 21, 2009

Firstly, here’s a website: Pendragon: Sword of His Father.

Second, I need to stop injuring myself :p I’ve acquired various cuts over the past few days (and don’t remember how I got any. I think one was from something that had to do with sewing) and I burnt my arm on the iron.

Third, is this not the saddest picture you have ever seen?

Photobucket

Okay, maybe not /the/ saddest, but it makes me feel pretty bad. I mean, if a kitten came up to me like that and I asked if I eated its cookie, I might cry.

On a more serious note…I will hopefully be graduating in the spring (but the amount of school I have to get done to accomplish that is overwhelming, so I might save myself some stress and go through the summer). So I need to figure out what God wants me to do. I personally want to stay home and read and write and sew costumes, but I kinda figure He has something else in mind that will get me out of my rut. I also need to drive a lot more (like, 27 hours) so I can get my license so I can get a job and go to college or whatever. And yikes, I just used “like” and “whatever” in the same sentence. I must need to get more sleep or something. ;)

I’m reading “How Sleep the Brave” by James H. Hunter. It’s very interesting so far. There are some annoying parts, such as: The breakage of writing rules has bothered me some (back story, passive voice, and the like). The omniscient point of view is annoying at times because the author doesn’t stay in the main character’s head and let you know what he’s thinking and I’d like to. But the story is engrossing enough to get over those things. The skipping of several years that sounded interesting bothered me even more, but it turned out well enough that I quickly got over that too. The author is good at securing your sympathy for the characters and building suspense.

I babysit tonight, as usual. It’s my weekly, two-hour character-building session. :P Most of the children are generally well-behaved, but there are three boys…well, two are brothers. They tend to be wild and disrespectful. The third boy is pretty good when the other two aren’t there, but when they are there, he’s worse than both of them and stirs them up so /they’re/ worse, too.

God is doing some things in my youth group that make me very happy. We (the youth group in general) used to be more involved in each others’ lives and we’d get together and hang out and talk about what God was giving us (which more often than not turned out to be the exact same thing everyone else was getting from God, down to the very same scriptures). Granted, I never talked much and still don’t, but just hanging out with them was great. Then those who were the unspoken leaders started college and other jobs, and while others stepped in to an extent to take those roles, we haven’t been as close since. My social life pretty much died and I felt guilty for wanting to just talk (or in my case listen) and hang out more than we did at the youth meetings, selfish for wanting to be known. But God is reminding use of the importance of being involved in each others’ lives, of getting to know each other and be unified with each other as well as with Him. I’ve wanted this for a long time.

There have also been some changes at Clean Place lately geared toward bringing us closer together, so that’s neat that God is doing the similar things in both of my circles of friends.

And now I have to end this so I can eat dinner and go build character for two hours kid-watching. ;p

Have an amazing rest of your life.

Frogs, Family, and Losers

January 13, 2009

I ordered a sword frog today from The Inner Bailey. The site was recommended by members of renaissancefestival.com, and though the price on the frog is a bit higher than others I found, I heard the item quality and customer service are worth it. If you don’t know what a sword frog is, don’t feel bad – very few “normal” (as in, non-Rennie) people I’ve met know what it is (you can look on the website I linked or look it up elsewhere if you’re still confused).

I’ve had a cold since Saturday, which isn’t very pleasant. But what was pleasant was that my aunt drove up and stayed with us Saturday and Sunday nights so she could go to a 50th anniverserary party for /her/ (and my mother’s) aunt and uncle (we young ‘uns weren’t invited, just the first-generation nieces and nephews and I suppose some other closer relatives, to keep the party small). We went to my brother’s apartment on Saturday and brought pizza and a couple of movies my older sister rented. We watched Traitor, which was…interesting.

I’m watching The Biggest Loser with my sisters as I write this entry. I don’t know how or why they started watching it, but they did and I started watching it with them. Actually now I’m in my room again because I need to do dishes so I put my laptop back in its place and hooked it up again. And now I’m kind of just rambling. And now the show’s back on.

Finally

December 26, 2008

Yes, I’m actually writing (well, typing) an entry after neglecting my blog again. I hope you (if anyone reads this) had a wonderful Christmas.

My brother came over Christmas Eve and left this morning. My aunt came Tuesday and is leaving today. On Christmas Eve, we hung around, ate, and watched The Fellowship of the Ring. Yesterday we opened stockings and gifts, watched movies (an old version of Journey to the Center of the Earth, Wall-E, and Cars), and played games. It was very enjoyable.

My main gift from my parents was a digital camera, as I already said, which I picked out and helped pay for and have been using for a month or two already. My sisters gave me a memory card, my brother gave me money, and my aunt cookies. And my parents also gave me stocking stuffers such as fuzzy blue socks and a scissors sharpener (:D).

My aunt, mother, and sisters are playing Scrabble. I’m at the table with them on my laptop, but I’m not playing because a) I don’t feel like loosing miserably right now, and b) It’s a four-player game.

I’m kind of rambling now, so I’ll end this.

Have an amazing rest of your life!

This and That

November 18, 2008

My younger sister celebrated her birthday on Sunday. She was born on December 24, so she celebrates it early (I doubt any of her friends could come over on Christmas Eve ;) ). I hid in my room and watched Hidalgo on my laptop.

I went shopping with my mother and sisters yesterday. I actually got something fashionable. The world must be coming to an end. It’s not that I try to be unfashionable, I just rarely find anything that is modest and I like, so I usually wear adult-small t-shirts from places like Colorado, Clean Place, and the Ren. Faire (seven months! *waits*).

I want a Great Dane, next dog I get. My younger sister wants a Chihuahua.

She and I and are exactly like in some areas (and simultaneously think the same things at times), and miles apart in others. For example, I was amused last night when she was all excited that she would get to buy a cute hat she’d wanted and commented, “Wow. You’re acting like I would if I got a new sword or something.”

For the record, the Twilight books by Stephanie Myers are trash, so don’t read them or see the movie. I’ve read enough of and about them to know this. Don’t post on my blog defending them.

I hope I can get some leather gloves and an archery target before long. The bow string wore a hole in my other gloves, and cardboard boxes full of straw don’t last very long.

Pendragon: Sword of His Father is an indie film made by a Christian family. It will be available for purchase on DVD from their website this month. Support their efforts to provide wholesome entertainment and purchase a copy if you like. Click here to go to the website.

Ever had a fruit crepe at IHOP? Click here for a recipe. I’ve made them twice. I used whole wheat flour (which worked great), left out the lemon juice and rind, and used blueberry and cherry pie filling for the fruit. I cook the crepes until they’re crispy. My family likes them better than the ones at IHOP (and they’re very easy to make, so it’s not my cooking, it’s the recipe).

Camera, Boots, and Bug

November 7, 2008

I got a new digital camera this week. It’s a Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ8K. I did a bunch of research online to find an affordable camera with all of the features I wanted, and found this one. My parents are paying for part of it for Christmas, and my brother for my birthday, and I’m paying for the rest (which isn’t much, after that). I went to Wally World and got a camera case for it today, and yesterday I ordered a memory card (4 GB for $20, the best price I found. It’s here if you’re interested. $20 is the current sale price.)

I also found the most ranger-looking boots at an affordable price I’ve ever seen when I went to Wal-Mart today. They only cost $12.

Photobucket

I need to wear them around in the woods for a while so they’re not so shiny…

Speaking of the woods, the tree leaves are gold, cranberry, orange, and the like, so I went to the park and took some nature pictures.

In the past week or so…

October 27, 2008

* I voted today, and it was definitely not for a socialist senator associated with Islam and a terrorist.

* I watched The Incredible Hulk last Friday (we rented it), and decided not to write a review (you can check out the one on pluggedinonline.com if you want), because my opinion can be summed up like this: “Eh, skip it.”

* My mom and younger sister and I painted the room I share with my younger sister last week. The shade of green is called “Summer Ivy”. I tried to find a place in the closet or somewhere else in the house for all non-Elvish-looking items when I put the room back together.

* I went to Joann to use my 50% off coupon (actually, I had three, but they only allow one per customer). I was going to buy dark green cotton for a Renaissance skirt, but there wasn’t enough in the shade I wanted. I used one coupon for a cloak clasp. I asked Mom to use the other for an eyelet kit (with my money), but notions were on sale. The cashier said she couldn’t take the coupon off the original price (and definitely not the sale price). She said I should be happy/thankful something like that because notions hardly ever go on sale. Why would I be happy when it makes the item more expensive than if I used my now-expired coupon on the original price (for the record, I wasn’t giving her a hard time or anything like that, I just asked if she could use the coupon with the original price)?

* I lamented living too far away from most of my friends to see them more than once a week the church meeting.

* I tried to talk more and succeeded.

Now I need to do school.

Have an amazing rest of your life.

Politics and Cake

October 8, 2008

I’ll save the best for last and start with politics. Here is a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EADUQWKoVek If you’re a member of Facebook, this video explains my current “status” (as of this very moment. It may change later).

And a saying: There’s Osama Bin Laden, and there’s Obama Been Lyin’.

And a recipe for chocolate cake that takes five minutes (or less, if you’re a speedy mixer-upper…it takes three minutes to cook): http://myfooblog.blogspot.com/2008/09/5-minute-chocolate-mug-cake.html

I tried it, and it’s actually pretty tasty. I thought there had to be some hitch to it (I mean, chocolate cake in five minutes?!) , but it turned out fine the first time. I might try cooking it less next time, because it was a bit dry. It’d be good with ice cream or whipped cream. Oh, and I used whole wheat flour, so you can do the same be healthier. =D John Tesh says white flour goes straight to the gut and hangs over…

Snapshots and Oats

August 1, 2008

Instead of doing Summer Novel Writing Month for July’s extra credit project (*weep weep*), we did Snapshots. Each participant created a fictional town somewhere in the real world. They wrote 30 scenes, each one from the point of view of a citizen of that town. No POV could be used twice, and only four characters could be related to each other. The genre had to be historical fiction, contemporary, or futuristic science fiction. Instead of doing the project, I opted to give feedback to two people that did. Neither of the two people assigned to me posted stories for a while, so I was reassigned to one person and kept one who was planning on posting. Then the one who was planning on it dropped out. The other person completed all 30 of her “Snapshots”. She did a good job. I need to feedback six more scenes for people not recieving official feedback to get the t-shirt prize.

[random] I often eat oatmeal for breakfast. I usually put chopped apples, almonds, and cinnamon in it, and today I added dried cranberries to that. I think they’ll be a permanent addition. [/random]

I did make up my own town and start writing unofficial snapshots just for fun. I’m on the ninth. It’s very enjoyable. They’re perfect for my attention span :6: Each scene is around 1,000 words long and has its own main character, conflict, and resolution.

I haven’t been reading very much lately, so I’m still on A Tale of Two Cities.

On August 9, a few Clean Place members from Georgia and one from TN are getting together. :) One of them I’ve never met before. I’m looking forward to it. I hope I can think of things to say.

I want to see Prince Caspian again.

Have an amazing rest of your life!
